Mariage Frères is positioned at the top of the market, sells the world's rarest and most premium teas. They have been working with the core concepts of organic farming for a long period. After a long time of tea studying and analyzing every bit of it with the planters Mariage Frères has come up with their own “Jardin Premier” label. Meaning that only teas with a high-end quality and meeting the strongest European criteria for purity are eligible for that title. All appropriate international criteria and certifications are met by the Jardin Premier designated plantations. Meaning that they do not use pesticides. “The natural environment helps to maintain the ecological balance of the plants. Aphids are the food of ladybugs” says during an interview Franck Desains, Deputy CEO.[1]

The brand is continuously looking to explore and discover more tea planters that are willing to produce bigger, better, and forever! They select each plot based on the tea plants, humidity, climate, temperature, areas with sun to maintain the plantation and protection. They do tests before harvesting, if all the area fits all requirements, then it’s validated.

Once the plot is validated, Mariage Frères commits to buy the full future yield at the planter’s stipulated price signed prior the harvest by both sides.

Coming to their plantation policy, there are rules that must be followed. By planting baby tea plants, they aim for the plantations to increase the quality of their tea and build new tea gardens.

Franck Desains also mentions that locally produced natural organic fertilizers are made from vegetable juices, compost, and manure. Each plantation strives for the highest level of organic and biodynamic organization. He mentions that they are “even concerned about the moon cycle's impact on still-manual picking”.

Once the young tea plants are planted, they do not pick it up until the 5th year, until it becomes mature enough. According to the Deputy CEO, this strategy enables the development of teas with extraordinary flavors by establishing the lengthy journey of artisanal production with the gardeners few years until the first harvest.[1]
